AI Value Creation Consultant
Drive the analysis and synthesis behind the AI Full Potential Plan: from stakeholder discovery through value sizing, prioritization, and board-ready deliverables.
About Common Works
Common Works is an AI-native services firm built for private equity. We work at the intersection of investment diligence and technical delivery, helping PE sponsors and their portfolio companies translate AI from a thesis into operating outcomes: higher EBITDA, better margin, and durable capability inside the business.
Our model isn’t consulting. We are builders who understand how deals work, and deal practitioners who can ship AI transformations. We forward deploy engineers, architects, and operators inside portfolio companies, work alongside management, and are accountable for the outcome.
The Role
AI Value Creation Consultants provide consulting-grade leverage across Common Works’ Value Creation Plan engagements. The AI Value Creation Lead owns the sponsor relationship, the value thesis, and the final recommendations; this role drives the day-to-day work required to get there: stakeholder interviews, use-case inventory, financial sizing, prioritization, initiative charters, and the client materials that tie it all together. The work is grounded in PE value creation priorities, not generic AI strategy.
This is not a technical role, but it requires enough fluency in AI, data, and enterprise systems to work effectively alongside a Solutions Architect and engineering pod, and to distinguish real opportunities from ideas that cannot be implemented. The measure of the role is not a well-formatted deck. It is whether the plan that comes out of the engagement is specific, credible, and actionable enough for a sponsor, CEO, and management team to actually execute against.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive stakeholder discovery: prepare interview guides, join and capture executive and functional interviews, synthesize findings by function into pain points, operating constraints, and AI opportunity areas
- Build and qualify the use-case inventory: translate interviews and workflow observations into specific use-case candidates tied to business problems, workflow owners, required data, and value levers; eliminate vague ideas without clear operational grounding
- Build value sizing models: estimate revenue, EBITDA, cost, and risk impact across low/base/high cases using operating and financial data, with documented assumptions
- Score and prioritize use cases across value, feasibility, time-to-value, strategic fit, and adoption likelihood, incorporating technical input from the pod to separate what is ready now from what requires foundational work
- Draft initiative charters for top opportunities with enough specificity (business owner, MVP scope, required data and systems, estimated value, complexity, KPIs, risks) to support a follow-on implementation SOW
- Produce and own the final AI Full Potential Plan deliverables: executive summary, value pool map, use-case inventory, prioritization matrix, initiative charters, roadmap, and board-ready deck, client-ready with limited senior editing
Qualifications
Required
- 4+ years of experience in strategy consulting, PE value creation, corporate strategy, or operating transformation, with a track record of structured analysis and client-facing deliverables
- Experience running executive and functional stakeholder interviews and converting qualitative findings into structured, actionable recommendations
- Ability to build credible financial sizing models from operating and financial data: not just populate templates, but construct the logic, pressure-test assumptions, and document them clearly
- Track record of producing board or executive-level materials that go to senior stakeholders with limited editing
- Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with multiple concurrent workstreams and shifting priorities
- Conversant in AI, data, and enterprise systems: enough to distinguish real opportunities from AI noise, work effectively with technical pod members, and challenge weak feasibility assumptions
Preferred
- Background at a top-tier strategy or management consulting firm (McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Monitor Deloitte, Accenture Strategy, or equivalent) or in a PE portfolio operations or corporate development role
- Exposure to AI, digital, or technology transformation engagements where you contributed to use-case identification, prioritization, or technology roadmapping
- Experience in industries common to PE portfolios: industrials, B2B services, consumer, healthcare, or fintech
